What's happening around Anchorage this week: 'Mockingbird,' cleanup time, May the 4th be with you

49th Annual Citywide Cleanup and free dump day

It's that time of year — when Anchorage starts looking … not exactly its most picturesque. Help spruce up the place alongside hundreds of volunteers. Groups can register online and arrange for the number of garbage bags needed with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. Individuals are also invited to go to any Anchorage or Eagle River Fred Meyer stores' customer service counters to pick up cleanup bags (two per person). The Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services will offer free dump days this Saturday and again on Saturday, May 6, at the Anchorage Regional Landfill in Eagle River, as well as at the Girdwood Transfer Station. The cleanup bags can be dropped off free at the Anchorage Regional Transfer Facility, 1111 E. 56th Ave., Monday-Friday. Monday-May 6. Free. (907-677-7103, citywidecleanup.org)

Sixth Ave. $49.25-$54.75. (alaskapac.centertix.net)
