What’s happening in and around Anchorage: Blueberry festival, a fresh look at Midtown and the return of Thera

10th Annual Blueberry Festival

The 10th Annual Blueberry Festival is a family-oriented celebration of blueberry season in Alaska. There will be a pie-eating contest, a blueberry-creation contest, beer and wine garden, live music and more. Headliners Hope Social Club will play Saturday at 5:45 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. Free. Mix it up in Midtown

StepUpAK aims to engage people about the different neighborhoods around Anchorage (previous years centered on Mountain View, Ship Creek and Spenard). This year, Alaska Humanities Forum and the Anchorage Public Library will turn the focus to Midtown. There will be interactive sessions with residents, local leaders and businesses; a tour of Midtown; a scavenger hunt in the newly renovated Loussac Library; and community dialogue session. There will also be lunch and door prizes. Thera with Turquoise Boy & Griffith

Thera is a female-fronted hard-rock band from Anchorage that first came together 10 years ago. After taking a hiatus back in 2014, the band will take the stage at Williwaw for one night only before taking time off to get back in the studio. They will be joined by alt-rock three-piece Turquoise Boy and hardcore metal band Griffith. $10 in advance; $15 at the door. 10 p.m.-midnight. Saturday, Williwaw, 609 F St. (williwawsocial.com)

Divariety

Gigi Monroe and Delighted Tobehere team up to present Divariety, a night of comedy, singing and illusions. Based in Juneau, Gigi is a celebrated drag diva known for her celebrity lookalikes performances. Extraordinary Stan Lee Tribute

Hosted by Chris Hardwick, this is a one-night tribute event befitting the "King of Cameos," former Marvel editor-in-chief, executive vice president and publisher Stan Lee. Celebrity friends, creative contemporaries and a few surprise guests will assemble in the Saban Theatre for the event. The show will be a five-camera multimedia high-definition live stream with high quality sound. $10 general admission; $24-$48 for booths. 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, Bear Tooth Theatrepub, 1230 W. 27th Ave. (beartooththeatre.net).

Don Jose's 35th Anniversary

Anchorage family-owned restaurant Don Jose's is having a 35th Anniversary bash. Live performances will include Los Angeles-based mariachi Quinto Sol and local songstress Kelly Rachai Thomas. There will be a buffet, specialty margaritas, prizes and giveaways. Noon-8 p.m. Saturday at Don Jose's, 2052 E.
