‘No better place to leave my appendix’: Comedian Jim Gaffigan says he had emergency abdominal surgery in Anchorage hospital

Comedian Jim Gaffigan, who will be performing at the Alaska State Fair on Sunday, wound up at an Anchorage hospital this week, he said on Instagram.

"If you have plans to get emergency abdominal surgery I highly recommend Alaska," he posted to his 394,000 Instagram followers on Thursday. "Sure it might be a long trip but I can think of no better place to leave my appendix."

Providence Medical Center couldn't confirm that Gaffigan had been a patient; he was not listed on the hospital's patient directory as of about 1:45 p.m. Friday, according to spokesman Mike Canfield.

Gaffigan is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Alaska State Fair's website.
