Here’s what’s opening for First Friday this week

Downtown

Akela Collective — Contemporary photographer and lifelong Alaskan Kerry Tasker explores landscape as a subject utilizing drone imagery and artificial light. Opening reception 5-9 p.m. On view through May 31. (320 W. Sixth Ave. #132F)

Alaska Center for the Performing Arts — 1% for Art and Backstage Tours will feature artists whose works are in the collection of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, there will be behind-the-scenes sessions with the Alaska Youth Orchestras and games with prizes. Opening reception with small bites from Glacier Brewhouse from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (621 W. Sixth Ave.)

Anchorage Museum — Arctic Portals provides an immersive experience in arctic research. On view through Oct. 13.

• Learn about the overview of how indigenous people have been represented in the media with “The Culture of Media: Representation from Nanook to Molly.” On view through Oct. 13.

• Alaskans and Salmon celebrates salmon culture in Alaska in its many forms. On view through Jan. 19. Polar bears and walruses offer insight into the culture of the “North in Aiviq and Nanug: Sea Horse and Sea Bear of the Arctic.” On view through May 12.

• The four dance masks in “Kegginaqut: Yup’ik Masks” are together for the first time in more than a century representing the Yup’ik windmaker spirit. On view through Sept 8.

Captain Cook Coffee Cubby — Longtime Alaskan and self-taught artist and photographer Dan Twitchell presents his newest collection of original oil paintings influenced by Alaska wildlife. The gallery is located inside the Hotel Captain Cook. Opening reception 5:30-8 p.m. (939 W. Fifth Ave.)

The Crest Gallery — Welcome spring with a burst of color in glass by local artist Amy Keyser. Since 2005, Amy’s whimsical Christmas ornaments have become collector’s items for locals. Inside the Hotel Captain Cook. Opening reception 5-9 p.m. On view through the month of April. (939 W. Fifth Ave.)

International Gallery of Contemporary Art — In the Center Gallery, Elizabeth Eero Irving presents “A Place to Call Home.” In the North Gallery, Shoko Takahashi explores motion picture books with “The Illusion of Motion in the Accordion Book.” In the South Gallery, Mikhail Siskoff’s “Dollar Cinema” found inspiration from the low-budget exploitation films of the 1970s. APU Leah J. The Bicycle Shop — Midnight Sun Brewing Company kicks off a month of bike events with a First Friday Bike Edition.
