Here comes 2020: How to celebrate on New Year’s Eve in the Anchorage area

The 2010s are ending, but fun is timeless. Toast to the end of the decade with family, friends and fireworks.

Family festivities

Fireworks in downtown Anchorage — The Anchorage family tradition will continue at a new location with more space to fill the sky with fireworks. There will be a beer garden, food vendors and a live performance from Those Guys AK and Underground Dance Company. 5-8 p.m. EasyPark Chinook Lot, Third Avenue between C and E Streets. Fireworks in Eagle River — Food trucks, fire pits and a fireworks show will take place in Lion’s Park. Free. 6-8 p.m. 18344 Eagle River Road. (christmasineagleriver.com)

Torchlight parade at Alyeska — Skiers and snowboarders will carry torches down the mountain to form a light show with fireworks at the finale. The best spot to watch is at the Daylodge base. Free. 9-10 p.m. in Girdwood. (alyeskaresort.com)

Grown-up gatherings

49th State Brewing Company — Take in the fireworks on the rooftop patio at 49th State for a “High Gravity New Year’s.” There will be an appetizer buffet, midnight beer toast and a DJ after the fireworks. Anchorage Opera at Embassy Suites — Anchorage Opera presents “A New Year’s Eve Masterpiece.” Feast on a three course dinner and a Viennese Table of desserts, as well as a cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvres. There will be live performances from the Anchorage Opera. Sing in the new year with a midnight Champagne toast and retire to a luxury two room suite.
