Fall in love with these Valentine’s Day events

Want to take your sweetheart, your friends or yourself someplace special this Valentine’s Day, but don’t know where to look? Here are some of the dinners, dances and parties celebrating Valentine’s this year.

Spenard Prom – Singles and couples are invited to dress to impress and dance under the flashing lights. There will be prizes and royalty picked by attendees. Local rockers Medium Build will perform alongside Prom pros Kill Bill Sax, DJ Spencer Lee and Alex the Lion. $8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bear Tooth Theatrepub. (

Valentine’s Dinner and Serenade – Edward Washington II and Sara Anderholm will serenade guests with smooth vocals while Charlou and La Bodega prepare a three course dinner. Vegan options upon request. $64. 7 p.m. Friday, Charlou, 3300 Spenard Road. (

Zoo Valentine – There will be free entry to the zoo for kids 17 and under. There will be a card-making station, a themed scavenger hunt with prizes and plenty of photo opportunities with animal mascots. Noon-4 p.m. Saturday, The Alaska Zoo, 4731 O’Malley Road. (

The Ken Peltier Valentine Party – “Alaska’s favorite country band” will be putting on a dance party with live music at Koots. AJ Johnston will open with his music and then The Ken Peltier Band will take the stage. 9 p.m. Friday, Koots, 2435 Spenard Road. (

Valentine’s in the Garden – The Alaska Botanical Garden will be lit up to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Bring your sweetheart for some hors d’oeuvres from Fromagio’s and drinks in the greenhouse. Or you can enjoy a toasty bonfire and hot cocoa in the garden. This is a family friendly event. $35. 6-8 pm. Friday, 4601 Campbell Airstrip Road. (

Dinner at Muse – Muse will be serving an a’ la carte menu with special added Valentine’s items, including shared plates for couples or groups of friends. There will be additional champagne selections for this occasion. RSVP for a reservation. 5-9 p.m. Friday, 625 C St. (907-929-9210)

Vintage Valentine – The Sweet Cheeks Cabaret Performers will be putting on a vintage burlesque vintage “dating gameshow.” There will be live music and a culinary cabaret. $30-$45. 6:30-8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Matanuska Brewing Co., 535 W. Third Ave. (

Sweetheart Smooth Jazz – Acclaimed pianist Keiko Matsui and jazz saxophonist and vocalist Eric Darius will perform together for a night of romantic smooth jazz. The concert will open with violinist Elena Lukina. $60-$85. 7:30 p.m. Friday, Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave. Ste. ACH (
