‘Portlandia,’ ‘SNL’ comedian Fred Armisen will perform in Anchorage this May

Fred Armisen, a musician and comedian widely known for his roles on “Saturday Night Live” and “Portlandia,” will perform at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium in Anchorage on Friday, May 29, Showdown Productions announced Tuesday.

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale noon Thursday, March 5. (An pre-sale access code will be sent to people who sign up for Showdown’s email list via showdownalaska.com.) General ticket sales will start at noon Friday, March 6, at eventbrite.com.

While known for his comedy roles, Armisen also has a career as a musician -- recently, as bandleader for the house band on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The show Armisen is bringing to Anchorage, “Comedy for Musicians, But Everyone is Welcome,” will combine elements of both, Raymond Flores with Showdown said.

Armisen will bring up two national openers: actress and comedian Charlyne Yi (”Knocked Up," season eight of “House”) and Mississippi singer-songwriter Kate Teague.

Armisen was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 2002 to 2013, where he played characters including Garth — one half of musical duo Garth & Kat (with Kristen Wiig), who appear on Weekend Update and make up songs on the spot — and homeowner Stuart on “The Californians.” He was the co-creator, co-writer and co-star of IFC’s Emmy-nominated “Portlandia” alongside Carrie Brownstein and starred alongside fellow “SNL” alum Maya Rudolph in the 2018 series “Forever.”

Armisen has also appeared in feature films, including “EuroTrip,” “Anchorman” and “Cop Out.”
