While this weekend will be dominated by Halloween celebrations, there are some events that won’t be so spooky. A major Aretha Franklin tribute will honor the Queen of Soul and there are also comedy and music options. Aretha: A Tribute: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Atwood Concert Hall, 621 West 6th Ave.
This tribute to The Queen of Soul features all of Aretha Franklin’s hits like “Respect” and “Chain of Fools” with performers Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw. Tickets start at $35.
The Down South Comedy Invasion: 7 p.m. Saturday, Discovery Theatre, 621 West 6th Ave.
Comedian Barbara Carlyle headlines along with Angelo Dundee, Big E and Charles Walden. The comedians start at 8 p.m. with DJ KJ set to kick it off at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $49.75.
Lights Down Low: Dawn McClain: 2 p.m. Saturday, Cafecito Bonito, 6307 DeBarr Road.
Part of the R&B Neo Soul Concert Series, Dawn McClain brings what is described as a “classic soul groove gumbo” to the stage. General admission tickets are $15 with table options available as well.
Holiday Vendor Marketplace & Craft Show: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Midtown Mall, 600 E. Northern Lights Blvd.
This weekend the holiday market kicks off with clothing, art, soaps, candles, baked goods and jewelry. The market will run all the way up to the holiday season.
October Nights: 26th Annual Auction Fundraiser: 6 p.m. Saturday, 49th State Brewing, 717 W 3rd Ave.
This is the annual fundraiser for the Eagle River Nature Center, and includes a live auction with Dan Newman from Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals. There is also a silent auction that is ongoing which will close and will have live music from Highway 9.
