9th Army Band is moving from Fairbanks to Anchorage military base

It's been three years since the Air Force Band of the Pacific left Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson as part of military downsizing. The move left Alaska's largest military facility without a resident band.

Now the United States Army Alaska Public Affairs office has announced that the 9th Army Band will be repositioned from Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks to the Anchorage base effective Oct. 16. The unit will have 42 musicians at JBER.

The 9th Army Band deploys around the state and elsewhere to provide official band support to military ceremonies, public outreach and other community events. A brass quintet will remain stationed at Wainwright.
