9th Army Band is moving from Fairbanks to Anchorage military base

It's been three years since the Air Force Band of the Pacific left Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson as part of military downsizing. The move left Alaska's largest military facility without a resident band.

Now the United States Army Alaska Public Affairs office has announced that the 9^th Army Band will be repositioned from Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks to the Anchorage base effective Oct. 16. The unit will have 42 musicians at JBER.

The 9^th Army Band deploys around the state and elsewhere to provide official band support to military ceremonies, public outreach and other community events. A brass quintet will remain stationed at Wainwright.
