Lil Wayne announces May show in Anchorage

Hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne will play Sullivan Arena on Saturday, May 13, the arena announced over the weekend.

Lil Wayne's solo career took off in 1999 with the platinum album "The Block is Hot." His most recent solo release is 2015's "Free Weezy Album" or "FWA," available by streaming. Fans are still waiting for "Tha Carter V," the next installment of his popular album series that started with "Tha Carter" in 2004.

According to Billboard.com, as of February, Lil Wayne is the solo artist with the most appearances of all time on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His 133 entries started with "Back That Thang Up" in 1999, and his latest Hot 100 hit is "Running Back," a collaboration with rapper Wale released earlier this year.

At the end of March, Lil Wayne launched his own branded digital station, "Young Money Radio," through a partnership with internet radio station Dash Radio.

The embattled artist, who is also well known for his health issues, feuds with rappers including Young Buck, and numerous arrests for drug and weapons possession, is currently in the news for missing a concert this past weekend at Target Center in Minneapolis.

According to allhiphop.com, Lil Wayne apologized and said mechanical issues with his plane were to blame for his absence.

Tickets for Lil Wayne at Sullivan Arena go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, by calling 800-745-3000, or at the Sullivan Arena box office, located at 1600 Gambell St. Ticket prices were not yet available Monday.
