Forest Wilson’s recently released instrumental album “Wires Away” was inspired by the cover art, a photo of a riveter working on construction of the Empire State Building in 1931.

The songs were all composed by Wilson with workers on the building project in mind. Wilson said the songs were recorded very basically with no overdubs, meant to replicate the experience of him playing in front of the listener in a living room or some other relaxed setting.

The photographer of the cover art was Lewis Wickes Hine and the song Wilson performs here is called “Waltz for Wickes.”

Wilson, who also plays guitar for The Jangle Bees, is a music teacher in Anchorage offering lessons in guitar, piano, banjo, mandolin, bass, ukulele, dobro and lap steel.
