Passenger injured in forced landing of small plane north of Talkeetna

One person was hurt Sunday afternoon when a small plane lost power and crash-landed north of Talkeetna, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said in a dispatch late Sunday that they were first informed of the crash, about 50 miles north of Talkeetna, at about 7:10 p.m. The pilot, 33-year-old Anchorage resident Trevor Jones, earlier in the day was practicing touch-and-go landings in the 1957 Piper PA-22-150.

"The plane subsequently experienced engine problems and was forced to land on a sloped portion of a hillside," troopers wrote. "Jones did not report any injuries, and a passenger was transported to the (Mat-Su Regional Medical Center) in Palmer for non-life-threatening injuries."

Jones' aircraft suffered "significant damage," troopers said, and was left at the scene.

Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were advised of the incident.
