Caution, pilots: Live fire on JBER is no joke

Pilots operating in the Anchorage and Eagle River area should note that Live Fire hazards exist for all air operations within the military boundaries of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). While Military Operations Areas and Restricted Zones are noted on regional navigational charts, those areas that fall under "military owned land" are not, but still must be treated as privately owned land and operations in and out of them are by permission only.

JBER notes in a recent release that "There has been an increase of both airplanes and helicopters landing, within the military boundaries, without authorization."

These aircraft are subject to seizure if found within the boundaries of military property.

Pilots considering operations near these military owned lands should review the general map for JBER that defines the boundaries. They can also contact Jim Wendland at Elmendorf for more information at 907-552-9453.
