BP Alaska president Janet Weiss promised her workers early last year she'd shave her head if they kept Prudhoe Bay oil production steady, a difficult feat for a 40-year-old field prone to decline.
She lost. Or at least, she lost her hair.
With upgrades to wells, new drilling data and improved efficiency, production held steady in 2017, at 280,000 barrels daily for the third year in a row. Prudhoe Bay is one of the nation's top oil producers.
Weiss announced her planned buzz cut at an industry forum in Anchorage last Friday. She promised to donate her hair to cancer patients who lost hair because of chemotherapy.
She said she'll experiment with scarves and hats to complement the look.
