A teenager who allegedly shot a man in Mountain View more than a month ago may see additional charges after the 22-year-old victim, Jermaine Twiley, died Sunday.
The Anchorage district attorney's office plans to present additional information to a grand jury next week and could possibly put murder charges on the table for 19-year-old Talon Draper, said deputy district attorney Clint Campion. He added that they will determine exactly what additional charges to seek after they receive more information from the medical examiner's office, who was conducting an autopsy on Twiley.
Draper is currently being held on $30,000 bail for the original first-degree assault charge for allegedly shooting Twiley in the back of the head early Jan. 7. Twiley was found lying facedown on the ground on the northwest corner of Thompson Avenue, in Anchorage's Mountain View neighborhood, around 1 a.m.
Initial reports claim that in the hour leading up to the fatal incident Draper, who lived with his mother and brother in an apartment next to Twiley's, had been playing video games while his family slept, but a fight between Twiley and his girlfriend woke Draper's family up. They called the police, one of several people in the area to do so.
Then a second fight broke out, and at that point Draper reportedly told police he decided to load his .22-caliber long gun.
Draper walked out of the apartment and claims he told Twiley to stop, but when he didn't, Draper shot him.
A service for Twiley is planned for March 1 at Gatling's Chapel in Chicago.
