Three cited for publicly consuming marijuana in Anchorage

On Tuesday, the day private consumption of recreational marijuana officially became legal for adults 21 and older, the Anchorage Police Department said it issued three citations for public use of the drug in downtown Anchorage.

According to a release, APD said the first citation was written at 7:45 p.m. when a police officer made contact with an adult male who was smoking marijuana outside of the downtown transit center on Sixth Avenue.

The man received a $100 fine, police wrote.

The second and third citations were issued at the same time, at about 8:15 p.m., to a 22-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man who were smoking outside near Sixth Avenue and H Street. Each were issued $100 citations, police said. Additionally, the teen was charged with consuming marijuana while under the age of 21.
