Elite 9 will be the musical guests at the Spenard Jazz Fest this year. The kick-off is at 5 p.m. Friday at the Blue.Hollomon Gallery, and organizers expect some political types to show up for the music mixer with government accolades for the fest.

Saturday will bring a Jam Jar performance under the Windmill at the Spenard Farmers' Market, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Musical members of the public are invited to sit in with the Alex Cruver Trio for this free event.

Also on Saturday, the Festival Main Stage show will take place at the renovated 49th State Brewing Company downtown (the former Snow Goose). Music starts at 1 p.m. and goes at least until midnight — probably longer. Featured artists include: the Anchorage Jazz Ensemble, Melissa Bledsoe, John Damberg, Dan McElrath, The Super Saturated Sugar Strings, Ti Trujillo, Son Latino and Yngvil Vatn Guttu. Food and beer will be available. Admission is $30 at the door or $20 in advance at spenardjazzfest.org.

The public part of the festival ends around noon on Sunday with the traditional Jazz Brunch at Tap Root, 3300 Spenard Rd., featuring Melissa Bledsoe. Tickets are available at taprootalaska.org.
