• "Risk Management for Training Organizations" by Louis Christie, vice president of the Alaska Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Providence Cancer Center, 3851 Piper Ave., media center room 2401. By participating in this case study, attendees will be better able to develop a risk- management plan for their training centers or department. Free for ASTD members, $10 for nonmembers. COMING UP

• "Training for Trainers," a study group sponsored by the The Alaska chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, will begin meeting July 27 for an hour and a half once every other week through November. The group will help prepare local trainers to take the exam to earn the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance designation. Certification may be obtained with three or more years of work as a professional trainer, a passing grade on the exam and by providing work product. Those who aren't ready for the exam may still participate in the study group, which will help new trainers learn valuable skills.
