Jack-up rig slated for Alaska duty arrives in Kachemak Bay

The Jackup rig Endeavour-Spirit of Independence, carried by the heavy-lift vessel Kang Sheng Kou, arrived in Kachemak Bay about 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Under contract to Kenai Offshore Ventures and Buccaneer Energy, the Endeavour left Singapore earlier this summer after repairs and modifications. A semi-submersible float-on, float-off ship, the Kang Sheng Kou sinks deep enough for the Endeavour to be floated. It will then be towed to the Homer Deep Water Dock.

The Endeavour will stay in Homer through next Friday while work is being done on it, said Homer City Manager Walt Wrede. "There will be a lot of work for folks in the Homer marine trades," Wrede said.

After repairs, the Endeavour will be towed to upper Cook Inlet for work at two offshore projects. In November, it will move to lower Cook Inlet for work on the Cosmopolitan project.
