Halloween weekend events: what frights and delights are in store for Anchorage and beyond

Here is a short list of events and things to do the weekend before, and the day of, Halloween 2012 in Anchorage, Fairbanks and the Matanuska Valley.

This week in Anchorage

Now open: 3-D Fright Night Manor Haunted House at the Northway Mall. Open from Oct. 18- 31, 6:00- 9:00 p.m.

Thursday 10/26- Tuesday 10/30 Alaska Experience Theater presents the Halloween Film Festival featuring "Goonies" the movie. Check out AET's webpage for more information.

Friday and Saturday 10/26 & 27 10 am to 5 pm Icky, Squishy & Gooey Party at the Museum

Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10/26, 27 & 28 The Sorcerer's Apprentice presented by the Alaska Dance Theater at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Click here for show times and ticket prices.

Friday and Saturday 10/26 & 27 21st Annual Trick or Treat Town, tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. Tickets are available for two shifts on Friday, 5:30 to 7:30 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and five on Saturday: 11-1, noon-2, 2-4, 4 to 6 and 6-8 pm.

Friday 10/26- 4:30 to 8 Haunted Trails at Goose Lake Park from 4:30 to 8 pm. Families are welcome, tickets are available at the Fairview Recreation Center, 343-4130.

Friday 10/26, 27, 30, 31 from 7 to 11 pm APU Ghoul Hall "residents of evil" free haunted house

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday 10/26, 27, 28 & 30 Chilkoot Charlie's hosts the TWISTED FAIRYTALES party. Prizes for best costume range from $200 to $500. Click here for more information, including what bands and entertainment are lined up for each of the nights.

Saturday 10/27 OwlOWeen 2012 from BirdTLC and Alaskan Heritage Museum. Join a Parliament of Owls for a bewitching evening at the Wells Fargo Alaskan Heritage Museum [here's a map]. The birds preside from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. More information: 907-562-4852.

Saturday 10/27 Kids in Nature, Crazy Critters at the Loussac Library and Cuddy Family Midtown Park from 10:30 am to noon. Click here for more information.

Saturday 10/27 from noon to 9 pm enjoy Trick or Treat Street's Zombie/Halloween Movie Fest at the Alaska Experience Theater. The Theater will be playing "Wallace & Gromit" and "Night of the Living Dead." Click here for movie times and more information.

Saturday 10/27 Haunted Halloween Fun Night at the University of Alaska Anchorage Student Union Building from 1 - 6 pm for kids and families, free parking and admission.

Sunday 10/28 Halloween Storytelling at the Anchorage Community Theater, admission is free. Contact ACT at 344-4713 for more information.

Saturday 10/27 Dress up your dog for the Halloween Dog Parade at the University Lake Dog Park beginning at 2 pm.

Saturday 10/27 The Alyeska Halloween Train ride: Ride from Anchorage to Girdwood in your best costume. Event is for persons 21 and over and tickets are $249 per person, based on double occupancy and include dinner and a hotel room at the Alyeska Prince Hotel in Girdwood. Click here for more.

Saturday 10/27 Dance party at McGinley's' "Samhain" celebration with DJ Encyclopedia Brown

Saturday 10/27 Monster's Ball at the Museum! Come dressed to win because there will be prizes for best costume in several different categories. Tickets are $30, buy online here. This event will begin at 8 pm and runs until 2 a.m. Sunday.

Saturday 10/27 Bike around town in costume and complete challenges at the Halloween Alley Hunt Scavenger Rally

Saturday 10/27 Masquerade Ball at the Tap Root with The Modern Savage, Dabarko, The Sweeteners and DJ Clint Samples. Event is 21 and up, tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, party begins at 8 pm.

Sunday 10/28 noon to 4pm Howl-o-ween pet fair at Anchorage Animal Care & Control

Now open: Gateway to Darkness Haunted House in Wasilla, tickets range from $10-30, buy online and check the online operations schedule here.

Saturday and Sunday 10/27 & 28 Family events at the Eagle River Nature Center beginning at 2 pm. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for a family. Events include a guided walk around the Rodak Natural Trail to a Halloween yurt for games and treats. Click here for more.

Monday 10/29 Alice in Horrorland Haunted House at 1041 E. Susitna Dr. Wasilla, AK. Haunted house is family friendly, but children under five must be chaperoned by a teen or an adult. $1 suggested donation.

This week in Fairbanks

Friday 10/26 Sleepless Night at the Empress Theater featuring performances of Poe stories and some original works. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students, military and seniors and $10 for anyone under 18. Play open on Friday and runs until Oct. 31. Show time for all performances except Oct. 28 begin at 7:30 pm. Oct. 28's show begins at 2 pm.

Friday 10/26 The Thriller Dance party at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel with DJ TonyH, DJ Stylezx and The Ice Villains (DJ 50-50 and The Decibel Outlaw). Tickets are $10 in advanced and $20 at the door.

Saturday 10/27 Fairbanks Asylum at the Tanana Valley Fair Grounds, $13 for general admission and $11 for military and students

Wednesday 10/31 bring the family for Zoo Boo at the Alaska Zoo from 5 to 8 pm. There will be a haunted house and more. Admission is $5 for annual passholders, $7 for nonpassholders and free for children two and under. Click here for more.
