The 2011 Cleaver Red Blend is a home run. It hits the palate just right, coating all those taste buds with pure black fruit. Its blend of 46 percent zinfandel, 44 percent syrah and 10 percent petite syrah is a match made in heaven. Sixteen months in new French oak puts a creamy vanilla touch to this bold and expressive red. A certain crowd-pleaser, The Cleaver is, as its name suggests, designed to go with big cuts of delicious grilled beef. I bet the winery will run out of this one. Costs about $18.
