According to numerous reports this morning, a flurry of legal activity occurred on the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon rig disaster and Gulf of Mexico oil spill, which was also the court-ordered deadline for companies involved in the disaster to file suit. BP filed suits seeking damages and to spread potential liabilities. Upstream Online reports on the suit against Cameron International, the manufacturer of the blowout preventer at the center of the incident. In a separate action, BP also filed a suit Wednesday against rig partners Halliburton and TransOcean, claiming in part that Halliburton concealed information that could've prevented the disaster. This news is all over the Web right now, but at this writing, Reuters has a thorough treatment of various legal actions associated with the disaster, which could involve more than $100 billion.
