Thompson, Carle earn World Championship bronze

Congrats to center Nate Thompson and defenseman Matt Carle, a couple of Anchorage guys who won bronze today with Team USA at the World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Americans medaled on the strength of a 3-2 shootout win over Finland, which Alex Galchenyuk scoring twice in the post-overtime shootout and goaltender John Gibson backstopping the victory.

Thompson and Carle both play for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. Thompson was sharp in the face-off circle today, winning 16 of 23 draws. He also fired two shots and was even in 19:32 of ice time. Carle had two shots and was -1 in 20:09.

Thompson's 38 shifts were the most by any American player, likely because he took so many draws. He won 69.67 percent of his face-offs, which is a sensational stat.
