Fairbanks beat an Anchorage team and lost to an Anchorage team Friday on the first day of the state tournament for girls high school hockey.

The Arctic Bears of Fairbanks opened with a 6-3 win over a team made up of players from four Anchorage schools — Chugiak, Eagle River, Service and East.
