Video: 'Queen of Elfland'

Each week, Alaska Dispatch News features a different music video by an Alaska artist. Want to suggest a video? Contact play@alaskadispatch.com.

Juneau singer-songwriter Kray Van Kirk spent years listening to stories and writing songs, and finally completed his first album in twenty years. "Queen of Elfland" showcases Kirk's passion for Irish traditional music, mythology and romantic longing.

Kirk believes that, to be a musician, you need "to love and protect your Muse at all costs, to throw your vulnerability at audiences like a gift, and to make invaluable those very things that you are most hesitant to reveal to anyone else for fear of ridicule or lack of commercial success," Kirk writes on his website. It's vulnerability and raw earthiness that Kirk strives for.

Kray Van Kirk can be heard on KUAC's Alaska Life in late January and will play on the Kenai Peninsula March 4-5, 2016.
