"Car Talk" hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi are hanging up their wrenches and microphones this fall after 35 years on air, the pair announced on NPR on Friday.
"We've decided that it's time to stop and smell the cappuccino," wrote Ray Magliozzi on the show's website.
The two brothers started "Car Talk" on Boston's WBUR in 1977. The comedic talk show, during which the Magliozzi's take questions about listeners' cars (and often relationships), was picked up by NPR 10 years later. It is public radio's most popular weekend show, boasting 3.3 million listeners and airing on 660 stations across the country, according to the Associated Press.
The pair, who go by the names Click and Clack on-air, also own a garage in Cambridge, Massachusetts, CNN reported.

Though the humor of the show often revolves around the two poking fun at themselves and each other, Tom, who is 75, and Ray, 63, both hold degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Tom taught as a college professor, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"The guys are culturally right up there with Mark Twain and the Marx Brothers," Doug Berman, the show's executive producer, told the AP. "They will stand the test of time. People will still be enjoying them years from now. They're that good."

When the pair retire in October, the show's production team will produce new shows culled from over 1,200 recorded episodes, with occasional live updates from the brothers, the station reported. Click and Clack will also continue to write their weekly Dear Tom and Ray column and keep up their social media presence.
"We're hoping to be like 'I Love Lucy' and air ten times a day on 'NPR at Nite' in 2075," Tom said in their farewell blog post.
