Claire Danes, Damian Lewis will return for third season of 'Homeland'

"Homeland," the wildly popular espionage drama that recently won six Emmys, will be back for another season. Starring Claire Danes as CIA operative Carrie Mathison and Damian Lewis as former Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, the show won huge praise last month at the Emmys, taking home awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series, E! Online reported.

"The Emmy wins for Homeland have certainly set the stage for a great second season," said Showtime president David Nevins in a statement. "The writers, cast and crew of Homeland continue to create a remarkably entertaining and suspenseful roller coaster ride, growing audiences week after week. We can't wait for our viewers to experience what unfolds through the rest of season two...and we are thrilled to begin the planning for HOMELAND's third season."

Showtime has ordered twelve episodes of the show, which had 5.2 million viewers for in season two.

The cast and crew will begin work on the third season in Spring 2013, according to Entertainment Weekly.
