Actress and reality-TV star Kim Kardashian arrived in Bahrain, to a host of fans, angry Muslim hardliners and teargas, Reuters reported.

She is in the Gulf kingdom to launch a branch of her Millions of Milkshakes franchise.

According to Reuters, some 100 Sunni Salafists demonstrated outside a mall in the capital Manama, while thousands of fans gathered there to see the star. Some paid as much as 500 Bahraini dinars or $1,360 a ticket, for the launch.

The Guardian said police later used teargas to break up the crowd of hardline Islamic protesters.

Sunni Muslim MPs recently presented a parliamentary motion calling Kardashian "an actress with an extremely bad reputation,'" Gulf Daily News reported, according to Reuters.

Kardashian traveled from Kuwait, where she opened another store, the Guardian wrote.
