Letter: Legislature great at sparing the rich discomfort

P.J. Hill's recent letter to the editor pointed to the absence of fairness in the latest decision by the state Legislature in regard to the dividend decision.

A further observation I might make is that no other state may have ever been so successful in obtaining generous tax payments from the poor, nor have they better protected the rich and the comfortable from the inconvenience of a progressive income tax. Every Native infant had $1,100 stripped from his diaper; teens had that same amount diverted from their college funds; homeless vets, single moms and workers working two low-paying jobs to pay the bills — all losers.

And the multimillionaires, the millionaires and we who are just comfortable financially? Saved! Saved from a graduated income tax which might have made a small dent in our comfort level.
