Letter: Time for commonsense regulations on guns

Recently in the grocery store, I had to show my ID before purchasing cooking sherry. Yes, that's right, cooking sherry.

And yet, Congress is unable at best or unwilling at worst to pass reasonable gun legislation to protect our children. How about strengthening background checks? How about raising the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic weapons? How about banning bump stocks? How about a waiting period before a gun purchase? How about considering the dozens of other creative solutions that would at least decrease gun accessibility in the hands of violent or mentally ill persons?

At one point, thoughts and prayers was enough. But that time has passed. It's in the hands of our lawmakers now. And I am angry and disgusted.
