Letter: Leaders silent too long on caging kids

I am so upset with our congressional delegation of Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, as well as Rep. Don Young. For months, they stood mute while our government separated children from parents at our border.

Americans are throwing children into cages! This is a shameful new manifestation of government cruelty that violates all sense of human decency. Have we forgotten the teachings of Jesus Christ that espouses kindness for strangers? Have we forgotten the fundamental tenets of our Founding Fathers who inspired our nation with "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they're endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." What about the human rights promised in our Constitution for a fair trial and the principle of being "innocent until proven guilty?"

We all must stand up for human decency; this should not be a partisan issue. Have we no heart? No compassion? No respect for human decency?
