Letter: Worried for America

The United States has had 45 presidents. Some have been good, some bad. Presidents like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower would probably make most people's list of good presidents. These presidents were noted for their integrity, good character and high morals.
A good president would understand that their mandate to govern is not limited to only those who voted for them. The president of the United States of America represents all voters. It is imperative that the president not appear to be biased or favoring any group of citizens over another.

I am 69 years old. I have lived in Alaska since 1958. I am a veteran, served four years in the Air Force. In my opinion, America is a pretty great place to live. I like the way things have turned out since 1776. And, honestly, I believe that at least half of the Founding Fathers and Mothers would also think things are still faithful to the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
I also happen to think it is OK for others to disagree with me; I'm comfortable with my opinions and respect others for their informed opinions.

I am concerned about our nation's people. I am concerned because we are so divided. The rhetoric is hot, our tempers are hot. Our willingness to display patience and tolerance is disappearing. We need good leaders, people, men and women of a variety of races and nationalities to help us pull together to keep and maintain this wonderful country.
