Letter: Kavanaugh needs thorough vetting

I think all Alaskans need to be concerned about Sen. Dan Sullivan giving his full support to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. It wasn't that long after he and Sen. Lisa Murkowski promised a thorough review of Judge Kavanaugh.

Historically, Alaskans have been opposed to having anyone from Outside dictating how we ought to run things in our state. But I think Sen. Sullivan feels differently.

Does anyone remember Sen. Sullivan's smiling photo on the front page of the ADN several years ago? He was at a lavish conference sponsored by the American Legislative Exchange Council. ALEC is a pay-to-play operation where corporations buy a seat with their dark money and vote on "task forces" to advance their legislative wish lists and can get a tax break for donations, effectively passing these lobbying costs onto taxpayers.

Sen. Sullivan has been effectively "bought" by this operation, which is funded by the Koch brothers, multi-billionaires who, as Charles Wohlforth stated in one of his recent articles, have funded political candidates who will advance their business interests for their own personal gain at our expense.

Additionally, don't be taken in by the Americans for Prosperity, which has an office here in Anchorage, also funded by the Koch brothers. The clean-cut image of the director of this operation, Jeremy Price, belies the purpose of this outfit which is to have Alaska approve "Right to Work" laws that really mean "right to work for low wages."

Please take all this into consideration and put pressure on Sen. Sullivan to not support Brett Kavanaugh and then vote this senator who does not represent Alaskan interests out of office.
