Often on sunny days, I ride my bicycle to work. I like the fresh air and the workout. My 11-mile commute to work from Hillside to Midtown takes me along King Street from 100th Avenue to 76th Avenue.

On most mornings, King Street is busy with many large trucks and 18-wheelers going to and from businesses. I do my best to stay to the right and out of their way. I have to comment on the courtesy these truckers offer to a lonely cyclist along that street.

My cycling M.O. is to get eye contact and wave at drivers to be sure they see me and know where I am heading. The truckers along King Street wave back and smile. They do what they can to leave a lot of room between me and their rigs when they pass. They wait patiently to enter King Street or make turns when I am passing by. In general, they are cognizant of me as a cyclist and kind to me.

So, my hat is off to the truckers of King Street. Thank you! And I look forward to seeing you again some sunny morning.
