Letters: Banning bags isn’t a hardship

Seriously? Banning plastic bags is going to hurt small business? I challenge supporters of plastic bags to elaborate.

How hard is it to schlep your own tote bags? What purchases are only suitable for plastic bags? What business can’t do without plastic shopping bags? The pet store, the pharmacy, a grocery store, or the auto parts store? Unless you’re buying a rear axle, puny plastic won’t do anyway.

I’ve got news for you plastic baggers: Be bold — think outside of the bag. You don’t need a fancy store-branded reusable bag. I use the cheap tote bags, the type sold in the women’s handbag department. I also use a large cloth bag that comes from a local shredding company. It is the size of a standard “duffle” bag, and holds all the boxed, bottled, or canned goods I wish to purchase.

If you still don’t have the guts to go without, become a hoarder and stock up on bags now. Have your purchases double or triple-bagged. Ask your reusable friends to forsake their cloth and get plastic for you. Better yet, purchase a subscription to the ADN and get a free bag delivered to your door six days per week.
