Letter: Be careful on the ice

The recent Bob Hallinen article showing ice skating scenes had some great photos. But the headline stating “The ice is fine for skating at Potter Marsh” may have been misleading and a risky thing to say. There was nothing in the content of the article to support that the Marsh was “fine” for skating. Who concluded it was fine, and what did they know to support that it was?

I live close to the marsh and have been concerned about seeing skaters on it. So, a couple days ago, I heaved a good-sized rock on the ice near the mailboxes and it broke through. It looked to be about two inches thick. In my opinion, that is not “fine for skating.”

Use your imagination and think what might happen if a person reading the headline went skating and broke through the ice.
