Letter: Green qualified for Fish and Game job

I just noticed the hit piece Rick Sinnott wrote in regard to Rick Green, special assistant to the commissioner of the Department of Fish and Game. Mr. Sinnott challenged Mr. Green’s qualifications.

When I was on the Board of Game, Mr. Sinnott was the state bear guy for Anchorage. I recall he made several public statements that were contrary to department policy. So why would we value his opinion?

Rick Green worked as a guide, served on various wildlife boards and is very politically informed due to his long history as a radio host. Who better to work with the public on these issues, thereby freeing up the biologists to do the work they are trained for? Finally, Mr. Sinnott mentioned Rick Green’s bear camp across Cook Inlet. I can still see the picture of a wounded warrior who lost both legs in the Middle East being carried across a stream by a volunteer to go to that camp. Rick Green is the right man for the job, regardless of what Mr. Sinnott thinks.
