Letter: Move the capital

I read the good news in today’s ADN that one of the apparent piéces de résistance to any thought of moving our capital from Juneau is no longer a non-starter. Juneau no longer faces the financial bankruptcy that would supposedly follow such a move, because a “huge leap in Alaska cruise traffic” is expected in 2019 and for years to come. Although that should indeed include some good news for greater Alaska, “Juneau is expecting nearly all 1.3 million of those passengers …”

I ask lawmakers to please put their — excuse me, our — money where their mouths are and start some serious planning for this move. Let’s move the capital to a place where lawmakers are more accessible to the majority of us, their constituent-employers, and, ipso facto, that provides them less of a cave in which to hibernate.
