Letter: Don’t move forward on Third Avenue project

Spending $3.8 million to narrow three blocks of Third Avenue and widen the sidewalks a total of 12 feet near Bean’s Cafe, so pedestrians, many of whom are inebriates, have less distance to cross the road — surely you jest. Don’t tell me part will be federal money — it all comes out of our pockets at tax time.

Let’s also stop calling it “bad behavior” seen around Bean’s Cafe and call it what it is — “unlawful behavior,” throwing rocks and bottles at commercial trucks, drug use, illegal squatter tents on sidewalks, breaking into and robbing local businesses and homes and so forth, that the city allows to continue rather than solve the problems in the area.

Please say no to the Third Avenue channelization project — $3.8 million is a ridiculous amount of money to redesign a three-block road to accommodate those who cannot cross a road responsibly.
