Letters to the Editor

Letter: Don’t be nasty

Thanks to Mrs. Donna Walker for her opinion piece in the paper on Aug. 7. My only difference is that I would go one step further. Saying cruel things about someone with cancer, or another medical problem, is horrible, no matter how much you disagree with the person’s politics.

Lately I have seen a dramatic increase in nastiness and hateful comments, both directed toward public figures and other commenters. I wish there was a way to know whether a comment is an individual’s opinion or whether they have been paid to spew nastiness. Either way, it doesn’t help the conversation.

It is possible to strongly disagree with someone’s position or actions about a topic without attempting to incite more nastiness and division. I urge people to be more considerate in what they say and write. Yes, words do matter.
