Letter: Tax Big Oil

While Alaskans hurl invective at each other and argue over whether we should have functioning state government or a statutory dividend, our overlords sit in climate-controlled towers in Houston and London counting their Alaska dollars as they chuckle at their accomplishment. Divide and conquer. It’s the oldest trick in the book.

The question is not whether we can have dividends and government too. The question is whether we should pay the oil companies to extract our oil or they should pay us. Call your legislator today and demand that Senate Bill 21’s oil tax scheme be revoked. Oil companies in Alaska should be taxed, not subsidized!
