As the wheels finally come off the Trump bus, and the historic betrayal of our nation that he represents becomes inescapably clear, reasonable and rational Alaska Republicans will begin looking for the emergency exits. So far, no Alaska Republican - not Sens. Lisa Murkowski or Dan Sullivan, Rep. Don Young, former Gov. Bill Walker (a faux independent), Gov. Mike Dunleavy, any legislator or other major figure - has publicly challenged Trump, but have remained dutifully servile while collecting every political favor possible from his administration.

As such, they have been complicit in the Trump debacle. As Trump now unravels and goes down as the most corrupt, dishonest, deplorable president in our nation’s history, reasonable and rational Republicans will, at some point, seek to distance themselves from his disgraceful legacy.

So who will be the first such Republican here to step forward to uphold the honor and integrity of our nation, science, truth, decency and the rule of law over political expedience? Alaskans will long remember how our current political leaders embraced the corrupt tyranny of Trump, and in that memory lies the hope for making better electoral decisions and a brighter future for us all.
