Letters to the Editor

Letter: Alaska development

In April 2019, I spoke with Mr. Matthew Fagnani of Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s Alaska Development Team regarding an energy storage concept that I had developed for Adak Island that I believe has far-reaching and positive effects on every potential stakeholder in Alaska. The Alaska Development Team saw the value, provided useful suggestions and used their convening power to move my idea forward.

Fewer than 10 business days later, I was briefing Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) and the Department of Revenue. Shortly after, the Alaska Development Team connected me with the Congressional Delegation, Federal Agencies and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Gov. Dunleavy has supported the concept with a formal letter to the Department of Energy. This quick action made me recall exactly what I felt while living in Alaska — a sense of community.

It is my ardent hope that I can take this concept to the next step, project planning and operations, to benefit Alaska, all Alaskans, the nation and our strategic partners.
