Letter: Cordova ferry service

I have been promising my mother, who will be 80 this year, a trip to Cordova’s 2020 Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival for so long. Imagine our disappointment to find there will be no ferry service available at that time. Especially this year, as it’s a big anniversary for this festival.

The festival runs in early May; how unfortunate that the ferry may run beginning May 20 — if it even runs after nine months of sitting idle. How unfortunate for Cordova, the small businesses located there, the fishermen, locals, birders and all of the people who want to attend the festival that ferry service will not begin this year until after the festival is over.

If the intent is in truly not hurting Alaskans, here is an opportunity to prove it. Start ferry service mid-April; put Alaskans to work weeks earlier, help out the community of Cordova and let me fulfill a promise to my elderly mother — and father — in getting them to Cordova for this momentous occasion.
