Letter: Thanks for canceling school travel

I would like to thank Anchorage School District Superintendent Deena Bishop for considering our whole community when she canceled travel for ASD students. The students — and many of the chaperones — are young, and would likely have little to no health problems with the COVID-19 virus. However, bringing the virus back to Anchorage and possibly infecting the elderly or vulnerable in our community is a real possibility.

I am sure many people appreciate the unselfish nature of this sacrifice. This is one of those unselfish acts which are difficult to measure — we will never know how many serious cases of this virus have been prevented. Many of us will be affected financially or emotionally by this virus, and I think that a little compassion, patience and common sense — including trip insurance — will help us all get through this pandemic.
