My name is Shane Zoleske. I am an eighth-grader in Gruening Middle School, and I believe we should not build Pebble mine. It will cause many negative issues, like generating toxic byproducts and losing lots of fish, as the mine would be at the head of a pristine watershed that feeds one of our largest fishing spots, Bristol Bay. Bristol Bay’s fisheries earn more than $400 million per year! A strong majority of Alaskans are in opposition of Pebble mine, yet the president is still trying to move it forward.

We can’t just let him walk all over us. We need to get into the spirit of what our own country was built on — giving the people a voice! Given all of these reasons, I believe that we should not build Pebble mine.
