I have been truly impressed with Sen. Dan Sullivan’s work over the past couple of weeks to ensure that Alaska receives the funding we need to fight COVID-19. He worked across the aisle with Democrats to pass the CARES Act and fought to include provisions that reflect specific Alaska needs. His town hall teleconference meetings show that he listens and responds to his constituents, to people who are out of work and businessmen struggling to survive in a crisis not of their making. He and his staff are providing follow-up on the issues raised by those constituents and assisting them with specific problems in applying for federal programs or trying to travel back home to Alaska.
Daily, I see him on public conference calls with Gov. Mike Dunleavy, local mayors and public health officials to provide new information and take questions, to make sure they have the resources they need. This level of cooperation and communication with state officials has never been more important. It’s clear to me that Dan is actively working with anyone and everyone to help make sure that Alaskans get what we need.
But I am not surprised; Dan has been working for Alaskans ever since he was elected — securing more than $1.4 billion in new military construction for Alaska, authorizing the construction of 6 new polar class icebreakers, playing a key role in confirming federal judges, especially in our critical 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, advocating for veterans and strengthening VA health care and protecting our land use and gun use rights.
