Letters to the Editor

Letter: Thanks, Sen. Sullivan

As an air traffic controller and president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) Local ZAN, I’d like to recognize Sen. Dan Sullivan for his steadfast commitment to protect all Alaskans during this unprecedented time.

COVID-19 has touched all aspects of the U.S. economy, and aviation is no exception. As NATCA works with the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the National Airspace System, I would like to thank Sen. Sullivan for ensuring the voices of Alaska’s essential employees — including more than 400 air traffic controllers and aviation safety professionals NATCA represents — are heard loud and clear in Washington, D.C.

Sen. Sullivan has been a strong advocate for NATCA’s members, especially those in Alaska, most recently becoming the first senator to cosponsor critical legislation — S. 762, the Aviation Funding Stability Act — that would allow the FAA to continue to operate in the event of a government shutdown.

I applaud Sen. Sullivan and I am confident he will lead Alaska through this challenging time.
