Letter: Thanks, Alaska Airlines

A heartfelt thank-you to Alaska Airlines for its onboard passenger mask requirement, which includes providing a mask to any passenger if they don’t have one.

Now, effective June 30, in a courageous additional step, Alaska Airlines management has recognized the public health threat should a passenger feel a mask is not for them and have empowered flight attendants to give these passengers a choice. After several requests, they will be advised no mask will mean their future flying privileges could be curtailed.

I hope this outcome will be rare, but it is an excellent demonstration of the clear expectations necessary for the public to help manage spread of the coronavirus.
