Letters to the Editor

Letter: More protection, please

As I stood in line at a store donning my mask and gloves and socially distancing, I was yet again horrified by careless behaviors. The person behind me was right behind me. There was a family of three in the line directly to my left, where there was about 4-5 feet of width between the aisles. They all were without masks and spread themselves so far out into the aisle that my line could barely advance. Their child talked, turning in every direction the whole time, and put a newly purchased DVD into her mouth to tear off the plastic.

At another store, I watched a child pick up and touch everything on display near the checkout and then play with the conveyor belt, wiping his hands all over it while his dad talked on his phone. I asked in both stores why people were allowed to come in without masks. I was told that that they could not question people.

If Costco can enforce the wearing of masks, why can't other stores? If one has a medical condition that would prevent wearing a mask, then why not just have a doctor's note? As a safety measure, could stores dedicate one checkout lane for those who choose not to wear a mask, please?
